Fall at Three Points Ranch

This past fall was such a whirlwind of events. From a crazy busy wedding season for Lucie's to planning my very own wedding, it has been exciting to say the least.

Today, I'm sharing with you Melissa & Ryan's wedding at Three Points Ranch. I really loved the cool, casual "Texas" style atmosphere. From the Lone Star beer & yummy BBQ to the fiddler playing ceremony music, it screamed Hill Country.
On with the pictures: (As I'm sure most of you don't actually read the blog, just scroll through... at least that's what I'm hoping for. :) )

I wanted to start off with some images from the bridal airstream. Its all white with awesome little vintage touches. I'd so move in here!

Ceremony Details:

The fiddler playing ceremony music definitely set the tone for this wedding.

Pretty little details... The gorgeous floral by, you guessed it, Petal Pushers

In lieu of programs, a HUGE sign was created with the ceremony details.

We also had cute info cards describing to guests the "salt ceremony". All these little details were by: KK Bloom

I seriously still gush when I talk about this couple. This had to be one of my favorite weddings. Everyone who attended truly celebrated the love between Kristin and Dave. You couldn't help but feel all the warm and fuzzies. Both singers from Nashville, they brought a lot of their talented friends to the party for nonstop entertainment. Dave is actually quite the accomplished songwriter and I'm sure you've heard his songs. I remember one moment walking outside to the fire-pit and seeing all the guests circled around, half with their guitars singing their hearts out. It was like watching an episode of "MTV Unplugged". aaahhhhhhmmmazzzing! Below are pictures of the beautiful evening courtesy of Katie Lee of Eye Nexus Photography.

I loved designing her wedding and assisting with the florals. They told me a few details of what they wanted and let me run with it.

This wedding was at the always amazing Laguna Gloria. The month of May graced us with lots and lots of rain. While we needed it, I wish it saved the downpour on say, a Monday. After envisioning her wedding for over a year, and realizing that the rain was not going to behave, Amy finally just said "I just want to marry Chad". LOVED that! So that's just what happened. The rest of the evening was filled with lots of love and laughs and the weather couldn't bring us down.

I love making huge bouquets - so much more fun to present that to the bride!

Petal Toss Exit - Nothing is more classic that a rose petal toss at the end of the night for the couple's exit. We "double dipped" with this idea. It acts as a pretty sign in table decor as well as a great spot for guests to come grab some petals for the bride and groom's exit.

I loved that we used lots of candlelight for the reception. It looked amazing! It also helped that we used pin-spot lighting on the tables to really showcase them. I always encourage lighting for every event. We also mixed up table sizes and used 36" rounds to 60" rounds to break up the room and give it some variety. Love this idea!

Lindsay & Ross

I met Lindsay from one of her bridesmaids, Lindsey. You may remember her from March wedding we did last year for her in the Hill Country. Its always a huge compliment when you get a referral from someone in the wedding party. We did the flowers for both the girls, and we love how it turned out! We went for a natural mossy and white fluffy flower mix including peonies and hydrangea for the entire wedding.

An Airstream Wedding - Three Points Ranch

Matt & Jamie's Wedding :: Round Mountain, TX

This is one of my most favorite weddings. I loved all the details that we came up with from custom labels to the catering team wearing unique Anthropologie aprons. Karen, Jamie's mom has amazing taste and provided all the centerpiece vessels for a mismatched chic look.

It was one of the rainiest days this past spring - everything was soaked! Karen drove the girls down to the ceremony site ... more like SLID the whole way there! (I got Three Points Ranch's golf cart stuck in the mud - oops!!) She shifted into 4-wheel drive, but not until they did a few donuts! She said it was the "funnest" ride ever and didn't care about the rain anymore. Gotta love a great attitude!

Stacey and the Petal Pushers never cease to amaze me with their incredible talent. This bouquet is by far, one of the coolest-chic-funkiest I've seen.

Diggin' the different style boots to go with all the girls' unique personalities.

Yup - that's a kale (cabbage) in that aisle piece. Too cute!Because the distance from reception to ceremony site were far apart, we enlisted '57 chevies to courier the guests to and from the sites. Complete with comfy hay bales in the back!

As a suprise for Jamie & family, I rented vintage umbrellas in preparation for a rainy day. I think it completed the vision we were after as well as adding a little fun to an otherwise unfortunate weather situation.

The moment I met Mary Amanda, I knew we'd have a great time planning together. She is one seriously cool chick. Her husband Ross is equally as cool, and is almost as pretty as she is. ;)

Planning an outdoor wedding in February is tricky. One minute it will be in the high 70's and you blink and its in the 40's. Fortunately, the slightly chilly weather was refreshing for all the guests who danced their hearts out to Ross's uncle's band "The Instigators". (was that even grammatically correct? "Ross's uncle's", oh well!)

Classes Starting Up!

I wanted to let some of you out there about the Spring session of the Wedding Planning Certification course that's starting up. I get a lot of resumes each week, and would love to hire all of you, but its hard to get your foot in the door. I prefer to hire within - my interns. Its a tough job and I have to be sure you're up for it. This is a great way to get some experience and education toward your wedding planning certification. Here are the details:

Wedding Planner Certification

Dates: March 3 - April 23, 2009 (no classes week of 3/17)

Day/Time: Tuesdays and Thursdays - 6:30-9:30pm

Location: LBJ Student Center, Texas State Campus

Course Fee: $855.00 (Includes workbooks, CD's, testing and national certification. The class may elect to
participate in a special project, in which case, additional materials (minimal cost) may be
required.

Become a certified wedding planner! This 40--hour course covers planning, coordinating and directing weddings, as well as a study of business structure, industry business practices, documentation information, contracts, marketing, and how to work with prospective brides and grooms.

The Wedding Planner Certification is perfect for the individual looking to get started in the business right away. In partnership with The Wedding Planning Institute, a division of Lovegevity, Inc., the Office of Continuing Education is offering this coures that also covers everything from etiquette and flowers to music and day of services. This program will provide participants with all of the tools necessary to successfully grow a professional wedding planning business. Students will also have the opportunity to participate at real local weddings for additional hand-on experience.

I loved working Jen and her mom Darlene. They wanted to incorporate ornaments into the decor since the date was so close to Christmas. Jen and Steve will have PLENTY of Christmas ornaments to display for years to come. We used a variety of deep purples and raspberries to fuchsias to create a really fun "pop".

Jen made a really beautiful bride. I loved how natural her hair looked and I am SUPER in love with her dress.

Flower Girl Wagon - for those little ones that are too small to walk down the aisle. Stacey decorated this with greenery and dahlias - see proof below. :)

Chair accent decor - dahlias and birch branches with vibrant satin ribbon.

We added some ornaments to the gazebo at Vintage Villas to tie in the "Christmas Spirit" at the ceremony site.

Yummy yummy cake from the one and only Simon Lee Bakery. What's that? You see a peony - in December? Yup - you can get peonies at this time of year - they're greenhouse grown and pretty expensive but we could not resist!

Videography has definitely gotten better over the years. Long are the days that you had to sit through hours of footage that you would maybe watch once. I am really enjoying the new innovations toward videography with the special effects and soundtracks. I feel like I'm watching a music video or a romantic movie trailer. I feel now more than ever the necessity for a videographer at a wedding. I love the tender, crazy, private and hilarious moments you can catch in full motion. One of my favorites is Elite Video Productions. Not only are they talented, but also just super great people to work with. This husband and wife team go unnoticed at a wedding but the result is breathtaking.

I also follow StillMotion out of Canada and had the lovely pleasure of working with Elysium Productions out of California back in October. Check out their videos for some great inspiration and a warm fuzzy feeling. :)

This is so funny! I never really thought that my career would become a video game, but here we are. I saw this on Amazon and decided to a search on this game - out of curiosity and of course procrastination from doing other things!

In my search I found what Sasha Souza had said about it: "Ninetendo's new game for DS is Imagine Wedding Designer. Hahaha. Cause, yeah, sometimes my job is just like a video game only without the cheat codes."

Oh so true!!

Venue Spotlight

Hello Blogger World!

I've decided I would try out something new to blog about. I want to do some "spotlights" on venues in Central Texas and beyond and possible featuring other vendors as well.

My first spotlight is..... Laguna Gloria in Austin, Texas!

This venue is absolutely beautiful and one-of-a-kind! I love the convenience of being so close to downtown but also far enough away to avoid some of the commotion that can occur in Austin. You can also chose to have your bridal and/or engagement photos taken here as well. I always jump at the chance of doing weddings here. We've done a few dozen at this location and each time its always a different look and feel. Below are some pictures that I found - either from our events or from the lovely search function of Google!

This is the front part of Laguna Gloria. I usually like to add a sign-in table here to direct guests to go through the gate.

We've done a lot of fun things on this front gate from floral wreaths, hanging flowers and amazing lighting to create that unique and welcoming feel.

I call this the "side lawn" or "sculpture garden". I love this part of the grounds because its one of the flatter parts and its a great spot to have dinner and dancing. You can add at tent and a dance floor here - and my personal favorite - hanging lanterns or chandeliers, flowers, candles or all of the above!

The Amphitheater. This is probably the most popular spot to hold a ceremony at Laguna Gloria. I love the beautiful water background and the very natural feel of it all. There is even a boat dock nearby that one of my couples did the exit from - sailing away into the sunset!

The "Temple of Love"

This setting is also very lovely and a little bit of the trek from the main grounds. It makes a really intimate setting for your vows. If space allows - I highly recommend this setting.

Engagments!

Engagement photos!!!

I definitely encourage couples to take engagement photos. Couple of reasons - 1. Get to know your photographer. This makes it less awkward when they show up on the day of and you have this person(s) in your "personal space". Its definitely beneficial to develop that level of comfort prior to the big day. 2. I think its just nice to have some great photos of you and your honey in your non-weddingy attire.

There are so many great spots to have your pictures taken. Laguna Gloria is a popular. Also, there are some cute funky spots like Road House Relics or the side of the Austin Convention center. I think its truly important to pic a spot that reflects your personality. Your photographer will have some great ideas and maybe some secret spots to share with you.

Mary Amanda and Ross are getting married in February at Barr Mansion in Austin. I honestly can't get enough of these two! The wonderful Sarah Q did their fun photos and my lovely sister did her hair and makeup.

Ashely & Owen - Kali Kate, Buda Texas

For those of you who have never been to Kali Kate, you really need to go check it out. It has so many little details built into the place, its takes a while to notice them all. Ashley and Owen were married there a few months ago, and I'm still working on getting more weddings posted. (excuses, excuses, I know - but I am trying!!)

They have such a cute love story and have known each other for most their lives. I helped them put together a slide show for their rehearsal dinner and got to see all their adorable pictures growing up. It was so awesome seeing all their friends and family just supporting them completely.

Well kids, I'm back from Monroe, Louisiana and met some really great people. Last year Jessica Claire held a contest for free photography from her including all travel fees for a deserving couple. Jessica is California based photographer that is always on the go and shooting so many locations. I'm often envious of all her travels. She's well known throughout the wedding community and is truly an artist and someone to aspire to be.

The winners: Anna & Chris! They were nominated by Anna's family and that's how this all began. Elysium Productions (also based out of Orange County) and I decided to sweeten the pot and include our services as well. I can't wait to see the finished product from the both of them, but here's a teaser from Jessica's blog. I really enjoyed meeting all the families and Anna & Chris's wedding was so much fun! I know people say that a lot about weddings, but this one was one for the books!

Tami and her mom were so much fun to work with. They are the "O" in organized. I really loved that it makes my job easier to where I can focus on the fun stuff like decor! These chair ties are from BBJ Linen. They are the "apple" color. You can use chair ties as table runners as well. We created a unique way to use the ties because bows would simply not work. This was defintely a labor love but it really was worth it. Thanks to Angela on the Lucie's team for doing such a great job!

Can you tell that I absolutely adore Petal Pushers? I loved the simple clean look of the curly willow with white dendrobium orchids. It really filled up the Vistas Ballroom at Lakeway Resort.

Speaking of these chair ties... Apparently its tradition in this family to wear chair ties on your heads at the weddings. I was not privy to this info before hand, so this made a good laugh!

Meredith & Chris - September 20, 2008: Vintage Villas, Austin

Its been less than a week and Stacy Cross Photography has already sent me a slide show of Meredith & Chris's wedding. WOW! Its even prettier than I remember! She really captured Meredith & Chris's love and spirit. I big huge fat gigantic puffy heart Stacy & Stan Cross! Here are some sneak peaks! I can't wait to see what Elite Video comes up with! Kevin with FC Media had the tunes that kept everyone dancin'...

Also - thanks to Petal Pushers as always for creating jaw dropping gorgeous-ness!

We thought it would be really romantic if we did the first dances under the gazebo. We surprised the couple with a beautiful floral chandelier for that extra added touch.

Pretty pretty cake from Michelle's Patisserie. This was a cake canopy we created for that "wow" factor. This was also followed by Amy's Ice Creams.

These candelabras are always at Smith Family Chapel at Riverbend Church and Petal Pushers incorporated them in their design.

Something borrowed, something blue...

I'll have to admit, when I have a client that says she wants to incorporate a lot of blue in her decor, it can be challenging. Mainly, there are not a lot of true blue flowers out there and I'm not a big fan of dyed flowers. I'm currently planning a destination wedding with this "blue" bride and have found the perfect beautiful solution for her wedding in St. Kitts. These photos are from Destination Wedding Style.

I just love all the hues of blue and green to mimic the ocean's colors. Peacock feather's add a touch a sass and that "unexpected element" that you know I love!

Check out this awesome centerpiece of feathers, white peonies and hydrangea. So original! These amazing floral designs are by Yvonne Floral Design out of Hawaii... must be nice!!

Destination Weddings

For those of you who don't know, I got started in this industry doing destination weddings. Whether in Key West, New Orleans or the Caribbean, I was the go-to gal for these hot spots. I thought I would share some tips on what you need before jetting off to your nearest beach (and when you do, could I please tag along?)

First thing to check:

Language. Yes, it may be obvious to some, but before deciding you want your wedding to be in Paris or Cancun, weigh in the factor that there will be a language barrier and this may cause a challenge to you and/or your guests. I unfortunately am not bilingual by any stretch of the imagination, and most US based destination planners are not either. BUT - we have our resources in our destinations of choice that we communicate with and help translate. I strongly recommend you finding a planner experienced in your destination of choice.

Marriage Requirements. What the heck do you need to get married in Jamaica? Bora Bora? There are several resources available to get you on the right path.
Here and here to name a few.

Now there are a ton of other things that you need to know. I didn't want to bore you with more text and no pictures.

As some of you may know, we not only do coordinating, but we do event design, setup and production. Jennifer hired us to bring together her beach themed wedding at Lakeway Resort. From a real sand aisle to hanging beta fish - we put it all together. Jennifer happens to be a fabulous jewelry designer and currently has items for sale at the Lakeway gift shop.

Along with the excellent coordination by Claire of Soiree and the floral guidance of Petal Pushers, we came together as a team and really did some amazing stuff! Townsley Designs brought in a super cool water table. Love it! Oh, and Troy with Blueye Photo is a ROCK STAR!!!

The Lucie's team also decided to personalize their ceremony seating with some easy DIY reserved signs. All you need is fun paper and special scissors that cut out shapes for you and viola!

Lindsey & Grant - March 8, 2008

I couldn't wait to post these amazing pictures of Lindsey & Grant. Their wedding and reception was at Thurman's Mansion in Driftwood. The day couldn't have been more gorgeous and the night was perfect for a surprise firework show for all their guests. They have such a true love for each other and it reflected in all their pictures.

Along with the expertise of Stacey with Petal Pushers we we able to create these wonderful bouquets and arrangements. We're so happy we could achieve their dream wedding!

Well I've been "tagged" with the whole blog chain letter thing. To be quite honest, I don't really understand it, but I'll use the excuse of being super busy and not being able to keep up - because the reason can't be that I'm just not cool anymore. I was actually tagged on MySpace, but since I see the other "cool kids" doing it on their blogs, I decided to do it here. Now I can also say that I updated my blog! Woohoo! (By the way, Edwin, I don't think its fair to tag 5yr old daughter, unless you're expecting her to respond... which I will then bow down to greatness)

On with the show....

Once you have been tagged you have to write a blog with 10 weird, random things, facts, habits, or goals about yourself. At the end choose people to be tagged, listing their names and why you chose them.

1. I love reality TV. I can't stop.

2. I tell people that I want to die before my dog, Nala, dies. Its true. This is based on the fact that Nala will live to be 100 in people years. Duh.

3. I am the reason for every woman/Asian stereotype of being a horrible driver. I talk on the phone and gripe about others being on the phone while driving. I've become an expert of putting on makeup and eating while behind the wheel.

4. The reason I don't put any kind of advertisements on my car is because of reason number 3. I'm afraid of having a lot of angry phone calls. I guess people assume when you put your company info on your car its also used as a sign to say "how's my driving? please call..."

5. I sometimes think I'd like to have kids even though I tell people that I never want them. This is mainly the fact that my super cute nephew is adorable. I figure if something so cute can come from my sister, then I must have a chance. Since I am, after all, the smart AND prettier one.

6. Even though we never say it, I love my sister and do think she's the prettier one. I hope she doesn't read this blog. She paid me to say this anyway. ;)

7. I am terrified of birds. No traumatic childhood memory. Just scared for no reason. HATE them.

8. I am also terrified of ghosts. Not really sure if they exist, but have no interest in finding out first hand. I make Chris watch "Ghost Hunters" with me. Love that show.

9. When I get grossed out, I gag. Like a loud put your finger down your throat gag. From a yucky story or just seeing something really disgusting. I can't help it. Its genetic I think. My sister does it, too.

10. We had a stray dog come to our house. A Pitbull mix. We tried to find her a home, but I'm secretly glad we're keeping her. For street cred, yo.

Well I hope you all enjoyed my mindless ramblings and don't judge me by my answers or throw birds at me when you see me on the street.... And now for the blog roll....

I just couldn't wait any longer to put these pictures up. I was striving to put my pictures back in order, but I'm in love with Sarah for doing such a great job with my nephew and his pics.

Sarah and Henry got married on Halloween of this year and it was fantastic. I was lucky enough to be able to help her out on her wedding day AND be a guest. Unfortunately, I don't know how to be a guest at a wedding anymore, so either way I'll start working the event. Its an annoying habit, I know. It was a Rock and Roll theme and everyone dressed up as their favorite rocker. And her dress -- OH MY GOSH, HER DRESS!! I just loved it! She showed me pictures of it when she ordered it and I've been excited to see it ever since.

The fabulous Bobbi+Mike team were the photographers for the wedding. Unfortunately, they don't live in Texas, but I'm working on a plan to get them here. Who wants to live in the snow anyway? ;)

So I know I've neglected my blog - a lot. Its been a crazy summer/fall. No excuse, but it really has been. From the crazy wedding season to teaching not one, but TWO classes this fall, I've hardly any time to breathe.

Today is dark, rainy and cold. It finally feels like autumn. Its a good day to curl up with a nice book and hot coco and relax, but in my case its curling up with my Mac and working on my 3rd cup of coffee and doing the blog thang.

Lakeway Resort & Spa - Austin, Texas

The Bloom's are an amazing fun couple. We had a lot of laughs planning the wedding. Krystina is a graphic designer and has a couture invitations company called KK Bloom and Jack owns Nasty's Bar in Austin. Their wedding couldn't have been more beautiful! It actually snowed as Krystina walked down the aisle. Lakeway Resort has a new ballroom that is mostly all glass and it overlooks the lake. It was an amazing ceremony. Many thanks to Shawn Kennedy for the images!

Krystina made life-size cutouts of her and Jack directing the guests to various things to do throughout the evening. From writing your name on a rock to pointing out the photo booth. These cutouts were a HUGE hit!

The Big Day is big business

You can’t flip through the cable channels these days without coming across an episode of “Bridezilla” or “Whose Wedding Is It Anyway?”

The wedding planning industry is booming, and Austin Community College is taking part. For the first time this semester, the college is offering a class in which students can become certified wedding planners.

The program was met with immediate success. “It’s almost full,” says Addie Kellington, Continuing Education Program Coordinator. “Everybody seems really happy with it.”

Community Programs Director Sharrion Jenkins arranged for the class. The Wedding Planning Institute, a division of Lovegevity Inc., provides the instructor and course materials.

During a recent class, the students listened attentively to instructor Wendee Robbins, an event planner for nearly 10 years. Robbins described possible scenarios such as the groom forgetting his boutonniere, or the florist not arriving on time to deliver it. The planner could take a flower from the bride’s bouquet, or just go without.

“There’s no right or wrong answer,” she told the class. “It’s being able to think on your feet.”

Wedding planners are expected to know every aspect of the business, from engagement rings to what colors will best complement the bride’s skin tone. Not every wedding planner will shop with the bride, however. Planners offer different packages, whether it’s day-of-wedding services or coordinating with the couple sometimes years in advance.

Wedding planners also work with caterers, photographers, and several other vendors, so good marketing and business skills are also taught in the class.

Student Kathryn Hawkins, along with her sister, enrolled in the program because they enjoy planning family events such as birthdays and reunions. Hawkins said she likes the class very much.

“I’m so engulfed that it’s hard to sleep. I’m constantly thinking about ideas,” Hawkins says. “I’m really enjoying it.”

Sarah & Kyle had originally planned a November wedding. Due to her dad's illness, we had to move it up to July 22nd. It was an emotional day of tears, laughter, and lots of love. I feel so honored that I was able to be there. You could not ask for a more perfect day.

We had four days to put this thing together. I couldn't have possibly done it without the help of these fabulous vendors.

Seth and Tori had an amazing wedding at Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center. Their theme was based off of their song "More than love" by the Los Lonely Boys. It was a beautiful affair. Thank you to Allen Doberenz for his eye for detail and professionalism.

We hung glass votives from the arbor to create a romantic feel. Tori chose to use pink pillows as kneeler's as part of the ceremony. By renting the iron centerpieces, we saved additional costs on flowers. We decorated the iron pieces with hydrangea, roses and candles. It made a huge statement.

Stephanie & Mario are such a great couple. Very laid back and easy to love. Their wedding took place at Texas Old Town in Kyle. Fun locations. There are a number of different ceremony locations and the main hall can hold a huge number of people. Larry, the owner, is very accommodating. Texas Old Town also provided the food and it was super delicious!

Stacey is truly amazing. Not only did she "wow" all of us with her skill but she went totally above and beyond. Stephanie's bouquet had to weigh at least 5-6 pounds - easy!

Angela as most of you know is my baby sister. She and her team of beauty rockstars traveled to San Marcos to make Stephanie and her girls picture perfect. (Not that Stephanie or her gorgeous bridesmaids needed any help)

I'm still working on getting all my pictures in order so I can update this blog... but I wanted to mention that my class at Texas State is over. The good news is that they want me back in the fall - I guess people weren't that bored. I did have some phenomenal speakers, so that probably had a lot to do with it. This was such a fun wedding to be a part of. Sherry and Gabe have the cutest story about how they met. 10 years of so ago, they met at the old Austin airport. They exchanged addresses and were pen pals and remained in contact. How cute is that? This is before email was so readily available. Now that's fate. They both are in a band called "Operator". I've seen them play a few times and they're fantastic. www.operatorsound.com

Their wedding was at Laguna Gloria. Such a great location and the weather was perfect. I have to give total credit to Amelia Tarbet Photography for these awesome pictures. It got dark pretty fast during the ceremony, and we were concerned that some of the pictures wouldn't turn out well. Thank goodness for her expertise and experience, we saw some amazing results.
